Our Vision
VIT Foundation provides livelihoods with dignity for resource-poor women living in urban areas in India. Our aim is to level the employment field for disadvantaged women by providing bold livelihoods options that enhance women’ economic status, dignity, and decision-making within their families.
A land having the distinction of boasting the world's largest number of professionally qualified women is yet to ensure a life with dignity for the majority of its womenfolk!
By helping women acquire non-traditional livelihoods with dignity, we are ultimately developing a cadre of empowered women who become agents of change. These women carry values of inclusion, mutual respect and equality, and democratise the spaces in which they live, whether it’s their family or community..
Working for women’s rights
Working for gender equity and women’s rights has been one of VIT’s major commitments. This option holistically addresses the issue of violence against women. It was realised that a fresh intervention strategy within the Criminal Justice System was needed to be addressed collectively.
- Providing rehabilitation to women survivors of violence;
- Settling disputes through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms;
- Assisting them to negotiate their way through the Criminal Justice System;
- Providing medical aid, legal aid, psycho-social support, shelter, economic rehabilitation and any other relief required.
